Upgrading Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn to 8.04 Hardy Heron

For your information, currently I’m using Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn. Wanna try to upgrade my machine to the latest Ubuntu version 8.04 a.k.a Hardy Heron which already launched several days ago. Poor me, I don’t separate my /home directory into separated partition, so I have upgraded my machine sequentially from 7.04 to 7.10 then 8.04 using update manager which is already provided in Ubuntu.
Now, the process still running, I’m not sure whether this method will upgrade my machine successfully. Usually, I separate my /home into different partition, so if I want to upgrade, simply download the latest ISO then reinstall whole new package in my existing Ubuntu partition. However, this method was recommended by official Ubuntu sites, so it’s worth to try though.
Later, I will share about the results… Happy upgrading
Note:
- In the future, if you want to install linux in your machine, I strongly suggest you separated /home directory into different partition. This will makes easier for you when managing upgrade process or backup your data.
