Firefox Extremely Slow on Intrepid Ibex
Sponsored Links
After upgrading to Intrepid Ibex, there are several problem encountered, such Skype and shutdown process, but all of that problem now has been fixed. The last problem that still annoying to me right now is my firefox running very slow compared to Firefox on Hardy Heron. I don’t know what’s exactly the why this is happen. Some said on forums that firefox slow because it’s Flash player.
After searching for the way out and waiting the update process solve this problem, now I realize that the problem is not the Intrepid Ibex but the problem is my hardware. I have “under requirement” hardware to run Intrepid Ibex. Today, I decide to downgrade to Hardy Heron again. Oh, by the way, this is my hardware specs:
- Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4400+
- RAM: 1 GB
- VGA: Onboard Geforce 6100
- Harddisk: 160 GB
Anyway, if you have the same problem with me and already find the solution for this, please let me know, I’m happy to upgrade to Intrepid Ibex again
Thank you.

Did you check the system monitor to find out if it was firefox that was using all your CPU time when it’s starting? Your hardware is certainly not too slow for Ibex, I’m running it on a 3.2Ghz AMD single core on a Gig of RAM in Virtualbox and it is fine!
I reckon that cron was running ‘updatedb’ or apt-get update/cache clean in the background. Make sure you check all processes and not just the one’s you’re running!

Hi MD!
Thanks for dropping by. I feel that my FF was very slow since I upgrade Intrepid Ibex on Oct. If there is cron job running, I should know it. After searching on the internet, there are some possibilities here, the cause of the slower performance is latest Gnome version or my Nvidia 6100 (in Ibex I already try using Nvidia driver 177 version, 173 version, and another one I forget the version).
There is thread on ubuntuforums discussed about these problem too.
But it’s ok, since I can’t work in slow environment, now I already decided to downgrade again to Hardy Heron, I feel it’s like a lightning speed! Hehehehe
