Previously, I’m using Compex WP11B+ as my access point, but yesterday I got another access point from Netgear, WGR614 v7 series which surely has weaker performance compared than my Compex, but anyway, it’s still worth to try though.

What I want to do actually is testing whether this wireless router works well on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron since there is no explanation about Linux support in the box. Ok, here we go the step by step guidance:
Step 1: First, download Netgear WGR614 owners manual here. Just in case you lost your manual or don’t have one.
Step 2: Connect your Netgear WGR614 with your DSL modem and your PC as in the picture below.

Step 3: Type this URL in your browser (I’m using Firefox) => http://www.routerlogin.net Enter username: admin ; password: password
Step 4: Once succeeded, you’ll be prompted Basic Setting Menu, complete the process and click “apply”, don’t forget to test it, if succeeded you will redirected to Netgear homepage.
Pretty simple isn’t it? Even Ubuntu 8.04 doesn’t need any drivers to make this Netgear WGR614 worked. If you want to, you can drop your question in the comments form below.
Note: For the first question, “Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?” I answer “No”, since the login process already taken by my ADSL modem.
This wireless router is cheap enough and can be useful to make a private hotspot in your house. Check out latest auction of this product at eBay:

i have the same netgear router but it never connects. I have comcast and when I plug the wired cords in, not wireless, it still never connects, it has like a search but always comes up disconnected. It is installed on another pc but I have ubuntu and it will not work. Can you figure out an answer to this problem?

Step 3 does not give me the login page.
It gives “Try Again” screen, with the usual page explaining possible errors. (Like did you type the URL correctly, now a “ww.something” instead of “www.something”, etc…

Hi I have recently received the new version of unbuntu ,9.10. and i have installed it alongside windows for testing purposes only, but can I get online? No chance!
I have followed the “help” section (to the letter I may add) in ubuntu. But no way will it “find” the network, (wireless) Netgear router.
It will connect via an Etheret cable. But who wants to be sat next to the router, which in my case, is in one of the bedrooms and iI work downstairs?
i have even conncted the router and and tried to “install the router with Ubuntu running but all I get is “this router is already installed. Do you wish to reinstall? You will lose any unsaved data”.
Any ideas?
