Looking for phone manager software on Linux (Ubuntu specifically)? Then you have the same question with me. Today, I try to search several apps that can manage my mobile devices (Motorola C380), such as reading phonebook, sending sms or calling rigth from the software. There are several software I found, Gammu, Wammu (GUI version of Gammu) Gnokii, Xgnokii (GUI version of Gnokii), Gnome-phone-manager, and moto4lin (Phone Manager for Motorola Mobile Devices).

I try each one of them and here is the test results:

1. Gammu
Most simple and stable, using Command Line to make a dial, sending SMS or managing phonebook, all features are OK.

2. Wammu
This is the GUI version of Gammu, but I don’t know why, Wammu gives some problem, sometimes it can connect, sometimes it freezes.

3. Gnokii
I can’t connect using this apps

4. XGnokii
Same problem with Gnokii, the software freezes

5. Gnome Phone Manager
I had problem with connecting my devices.

6. Moto4lin
The setup process quite confusing but I succeeded though, the major problem that moto4lin doesn’t have a features to send SMS or dial another phone. For temporary reason, I had to use Gammu as my phone manager. I’m still looking for GUI version because I have a plan to delegate some task like sending SMS to my wifes, and she doesn’t like command line interface.

If you looking for Gammu command references, here I will give you some, which I frequently use:

Identify Your Mobile Phone Devices Type:

gammu –identify

Sending SMS Type

gammu –sendsms TEXT phonenumber

Do not replace TEXT with messages, just type TEXT. Calling someone else phone Type:

gammu –dialvoice phonenumber

Cancel Call Type:

gammu –cancelcall
